Sipadan Island

Sipadan is an oceanic volcanic island off the coast of Sabah, Malaysia, and is renowned as a Mecca for divers. Its most striking feature is the dramatic vertical drop from a shallow 5-meter reef to a deep-sea cliff over 600 meters deep, attracting numerous large pelagic creatures such as hammerhead sharks and sea turtles. It is famous for its spectacular Barracuda Storms and dense population of sea turtles, with July to November being the best season to encounter schools of hammerhead sharks. Due to strict environmental regulations, only a limited number of divers are allowed each day, and permits must be applied for in advance through resorts.
